A place to slow down
The Arts Centre is a useful counterpoint to the city’s busy shopping streets. Take a moment outside to look at the stonework, rooflines and the way its buildings frame the courtyards. On a walking visit, those details are part of the experience.
The site is a working cultural destination, with galleries, creative businesses and events. What is open or on display depends on the day, so use the Arts Centre’s own visitor information for the current programme.
Visiting during the Ultimate walk
The Arts Centre appears in the latter part of our 5.5 km route, before the walk finishes at the Bridge of Remembrance. It is one piece of the wider Christchurch story, rather than a separate in-depth tour of every building.
Our city walk does not include admission tickets. If a gallery or exhibition catches your attention, plan to return independently and check its booking requirements.
Walking surfaces and access
The operator’s route notes identify a short cobbled section here. That matters if you use a wheelchair, have a mobility concern or are bringing a pram. We have not established a blanket step-free guarantee for the whole city route.
Ask the Arts Centre about access to particular buildings and contact us about the walking tour. Venue access information and tour suitability answer different questions.
Make it part of your day
Combine a visit with time by the Avon River, or use it as one focus for an afternoon exploring the central city. Leave enough time to enjoy the setting rather than only taking a photograph on the way past.
