Thailand’s Best Mango Sticky Rice 🥭 🍚 Kor Panich: Michelin Rated Street Food!

Bangkok, or really, Thailand in general is world-famous for it’s incredible selection of street food. So much so, it’s even gained recognition from the culinary experts behind Michelin (and fair enough too!)

While Pad Thai, or Pad Kra Pao might be the first things that come to mind when you think of Thai foods, we think the Thai desserts are pretty fantastic too. As fruit lovers, we rate Mango Sticky Rice incredibly highly, so naturally we had to visit Kor Panich, which is supposedly the best you can find.

Nestled among the older part of Bangkok, Kor Panich is a super short walk from the Royal Palace. You genuinely might not even notice it at first. It’s tucked away, with the obvious giveaway being the two mango sellers alongside the shop front (and let me tell you, these mangos are DELICIOUS too!)

Possibly the most amazing thing about Kor Panich, other than the scrumptious food, of course, is the story behind it. It’s been around since the 1930s - so we are talking about 90 years of mango sticky rice served in this very same spot! Apparently the shop  was set up by someone who used to work in the royal kitchen (we told you it was close!) There are rumours that people from the Royal Palace still come down to Kor Panich just to try more of their delicious mango sticky rice.

As for the famous dish itself, there are a few key factors that set it apart from other mango sticky rice sellers. The mangos that are used as called Nam Dok Mai - and they’re what we consider to be some of the most sweet and delicious mangos you can possibly encounter in Thailand. Seriously, if you ever see these for sale, buy up. You won’t regret it. The rice is sourced from Chiang Rai, well known for its supreme rice selection. We aren’t too knowledgeable about rice, but we do know that the sticky rice at Kor Panich was cooked beautifully, with that perfect blend of softness and chewiness.

You’ll find more than just mango sticky rice at Kor Panich. You can also get your hands on other Thai desserts, including an interesting custard, which was delicious, and apparently quite hard to find in Thailand. During the middle of the year they even sell durian sticky rice, so it might be worth a return visit, if you’re the adventurous type!

All in all, Kor Panich is well worth its Michelin rating, and is absolutely somewhere you need to visit during your next visit to Bangkok Thailand. It’s by far the best mango sticky rice we’ve ever had in Thailand, or anywhere else!
