Free things to do in Singapore

Singapore. It's not exactly what you think of as a cheap destination, is it? Well, as it turns out, you can do Singapore on the cheap. In fact, there are plenty of free things to do in Singapore, if you know where to look. So join us as we take you all around the city to see what you can do for free in Singapore.

DBS Sailing by the Bay
The views from the Singapore Marina are truly worth a million bucks. It's good from the edge of the bay - but from right in the middle of the water? It's even bettter. Singapore's biggest bank, DBS offers free sailing for tourists and locals. The hitch? It has limited spaces and they fill up quickly. Keep an eye on their website, they update it once a month and it works on a first come first serve basis. It's absolutely worth it though. We loved it (and spent the entire time in total disbelief that it was completely free).

Spectra - A Light and Water Show
Another amazing free activity to do in Singapore was Spectra - A Light and Water Show. Set against Singapore's iconic Marina Bay, Spectra is a fountain show set to classical music. The jets of water light up and you're captivated by the beautiful music that completely surrounds you. Although large groups do visit this free show, you will barely notice the crowds, due to the outdoor setting. The Spectra show is on at 8pm and 9pm Sunday to Thursday and 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Gardens by the Bay Light Show
One of the most iconic images of Singapore is that of the incredible robotic plants - Supertrees, they're called, which stand alongside the infamous Marina Bay Sands hotel. Not only are these trees spectacular during the daytime - at night they light up and offer a stunning sound and light show. The show takes place twice an evening; 7:45pm and 8:45pm.
Palawan Beach at Sentosa
Sentosa is known as a destination for theme park junkies, but it also offers several beautiful beaches. Palawan beach is completely free and has stunning golden sand, as well as views of the behemoth ships floating in the distance. Bring your own picnic mat and enjoy a dip in the ocean here. The beach hosts regular events for the public too - including free ones, so you're bound to be in for a fun (and free!) time.
Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay
Singapore truly has so much to offer n terms of art and culture, and this includes music too. Right on the Marina Bay you are treated to live concerts, once again courtesy of DBS. If you want to keep up to date and see what live events are on, make sure you check out their website.

Seeing the Merlion
It would be wrong to visit Singapore without also popping in to say hello to it's national mascot - the Merlion. Nestled against the Marina Bay, this creature (part fish, part lion, don;'t you know) splurts water from it's mouth, making for an excellent photo opportunity.
F1 Pit Building
Are you a Formula One fan? Whether you're an old school fan or you've been introduced more recently by the Netflix favourite, Drive to Survive, being able to visit the pit stop of the Singapore F1 leg is just plain cool. FYI, it does close from time to time, so you might not be able to walk right up to the building. This is the price we pay for it being free!
And that's it! There are absolutely loads of free things to do in Singapore - who cares that it's one of the most expensive cities in the world! We hope you're feeling inspired for your next Singapore trip.
