The BEST Fried Banana 🍌 Michelin Street Food at Fried Banana Rama 5

We’re always down to try delicious street food, and after hearing whispers of “Fried Banana Rama 5”, we knew we had to check it out for ourselves! After all, it’s deep fried banana, what’s not to love?

This Michelin rated restaurant is technically in Nonthaburi, about a 20 minute drive from central Bangkok. It’s located on a busy road near an intersection, and you genuinely might not notice it at first.. until the crowds begin to gather!

Coming up to lunch time, this place has a seemingly endless queue of people, all eager to get their fix of fried banana. After smelling the delicious scent of sweet banana mixed with hot oil, it’s pretty easy to see why. The smell wafts all the way down the road, almost beckoning you to come in to try it for yourself.

We were lucky enough to be greeted by the owner and given a private tour of the restaurant's facilities. There is so much love and care among every single step of this culinary journey, and it was such a smooth operation, with everyone so aware of their roles and responsibilities. There were people in charge of peeling, and others in charge of frying in the enormous vats of hot oil. The restaurant has even created a unique machine which vibrates to shake the excess oil off it's deep fried goods. It guaranteed that you get the most crispy fried food possible - rather than limp and soggy snacks that are drowned in fat.

Fried banana isn’t the only dish on offer here. There are other Thai snacks, including deep fried sweet potato balls, often referred to as “quail eggs.” When you see their general appearance, you’ll understand why. These are best served hot, and they really do melt in your mouth, after the most satisfying crunch when you first bite into them.

The fried banana is absolutely delicious, and it’s pretty obvious to see how it gained the restaurant its Michelin rating. Tiny sesame seeds are mixed in with the batter, helping the outside layer to be that much more crispy and savory, before you’re greeted with the sweet taste of the banana hiding inside.

This is definitely another one to add to your Bangkok street food list. The fried banana and quail eggs are some of the most delicious fried Thai food we’ve tried so far.
